Welcome to the Department of Television, Radio, Film, and Theatre

The Department of Television, Radio, Film and Theatre is a degree-granting academic unit within the College of Humanities and Arts at San Jose State University.

We offer a BA in Theatre Arts, a BA in Radio-TV-Film, an MA in Theatre, Film and Television. We broadcast 24/7 over KSJS 90.5 FM.

The mission of the department of Television, Radio, Film and Theatre is to teach and promote the creation and distribution of entertainment and information media content for the Bay Area region through its radio station, KSJS, its live theatre season in the University Theatre, and its screenwriting and narrative film making programs. We expect our students to learn and apply those creative and technical skills used in professional performance and production, to understand the role of a critical consumer of media, and to make intelligent decisions about the role of the media in society.

We are a performance and production department based on scholarship and the critical study of the influence of the performance media on society. We are a modern program emphasizing both content and understanding of traditional stage, television, radio, film and the newer on-line content delivery systems.
